AMD Barcelona 33% to 66% faster than Intel QX6800

Earlier i had posted about AMD Barcelona.

Today i have came across the Comparision of AMD Barcelona AMD’s native Quad Core Processor and Intel’s Fastet QX6800.

In Sandra multimedia benchmark Barcelona K10 2.5 GHz scores over 400.000 it/s (instructions / second) in integer test and about 300.000 it/s in floating point test.

Intel’s fastest QX6800 Quad core at 3 GHz scores about ~300.000 it/s in integer and ~180.000 it/s in floating point test.

So at least in multimedia stuff and this synthetic benchmark AMD’s native quad core is 33.3 percent faster than Intel’s fastest Quad core, while in the floating calculations it is a massive 66 percent faster.

The QX6850 with FSB 1333 might improve the situation a bit, but it won’t be enough save the day. Intel needs to go much higher than 3 GHZ to match the 2.5 GHz K10 part.

Seems AMD has got fed up with its half million losses and they are ready to defeat Intel.

So good news for die hard AMD Fans Like me!!!

How to use ScreenSaver as Wallpaper in Windows XP

Use ScreenSaver as Wallpaper in XPToday at Tech Reckoner I am gonna tell you how to use ScreenSaver as Wallpaper in Windows XP. Windows Vista has this feature inbuilt called Dreamscene which allows you to use ScreenSaver as Wallpaper. But how to get the same effect in Windows XP??

You can get the same effect in Windows XP also with the help of an OpenSource software ( btw I am a strong supporter of OpenSource softwares). The Software’s name is Vital Desktop. Download it from here (File size 187 KB) and install it (If you don’t know how to Install a software you are reading a wrong blog ;)) )

After Installing there will be an added menu in the Right Click context menu on desktop. Enable it from there.

Also from the same menu click configure to select the desired ScreenSaver. That’s it now you have your ScreenSaver as Wallpaper. Simple and Easy :) (If the configuration window doesn’t come up and it doesn’t seem to work then go to X:\Program Files\Vital Desktop and launch VDConfig.exe from there X:\ being your default windows installation directory which is C:\ mostly )

You can also download the Windows Vista ScreenSavers from here

These are the screenshots of the Windows Vista Screensavers. Just extract the ScreenSavers right click on them and install them or copy then to C:\Windows folder.

WHERE IS THE LATEST TECHNOLOGY?

Core 2 Duo Processors are the latest trend today , Quad Cores will become soon and Dual Cores were couple of months back but Pentium 4 Processors are the latest trend and better than Dual Core? Well that is what according to a computer shopkeeper. It all started when I when with my friend to buy some blank DVDs.
We went to a shop which also turned out to be a computer hardware shop. A guy came there to buy a processor. As the shopkeeper and that guy were discussing about processors, he asked about the Dual Core processor. I was completely shocked from the shopkeeper’s reply.
Here are the exact words of him “Dual Core processors are low in performance when compared to Pentium 4 and to run Dual Core processors you must have minimum two ram modules.” And he is running a computer hardware shop!.
Well he was trying to empty his Pentium 4 stock by cheating the customer. I couldn’t control myself and said “Buy Core2Duo. It is the latest and the fastest.” As I’m only 17 years old, shopkeeper was surprised from my reply and didn’t say a word . But when I was leaving the shop, he said Core2Duo Processors are costly. I replied by saying 8000 Bucks is not much considering the performance. I don’t know what happened after that but what I’m trying to say is that we should help such customers who don’t know about new technology. There are many people in India who still don’t know about Dual Core Processors. They still think Pentium 4 is the latest processor. Everyone knows about the latest mobiles and their features but why not computers? Such shopkeepers are responsible for this and lack of awareness among the people. You can find lots of advertisements of cell phones on TV but Processors, Motherboards or Graphic Cards? Hardly one or two or not even that. Only tech magazines give ads of processors, Motherboards etc but how many average users buy tech magazine? Sadly answer is no one.

People should be aware of new technology and these shopkeepers. Being a computer geek I think it is my duty to save customers from falling into traps of such shopkeepers. So you all go out and save your friends , relatives and let the new technology spread in India.

So where is the Latest Technology??

Add useful options to right click menu with FileMenu Tools

FileMenu ToolsFileMenu tools is a great freeware utility which can add many options to the right click menu. Its can add many options like Run Command Line from here, Copy to, Move to, Delete locked file, Delete without sending to Recycle Bin, Register Dll and many more……

Here is a brief over view of all the Commands of FileMenu Tools :

  • Run with Parameters : This utility lets you run a program with parameters typed through a dialog box. This utility is displayed only for files with the following extension: .exe, .dll, .bat.
  • Command Line From Here: This utility opens a command line window whose working folder is the selected folder from the Windows Explorer.

  • Copy To/Move To : This utility lets you copy/move the selected elements to other folder.

  • Copy Path : This utility copies to the clipboard the path of all the selected elements in the Windows Explorer.

  • Copy Content : This utility copies to the clipboard the content of the selected element in the Windows Explorer. If a file is selected, its content is copied; and if a folder is selected, the list with the name of all the files and all the subfolders that the selected folder contains is copied.
  • Attributes : This utility lets you view and change the attributes of the selected elements from the Windows Explorer. It shows a submenu with all the available attributes. The attributes can be:

    · Read only. Indicates if the element is read only, and therefore its content cannot be changed.

    · Hidden. Indicates if the element is hidden, and therefore it will be not showed in Windows Explorer (unless the Windows Explorer had been configured to show hidden elements).

    · System. Indicates if the element is a special element used by Windows.

    · Modified. Indicates if the element has been modified after creating it.
  • Register/Unregister DLL : This utility registers or unregisters dinamyc link libraries in the Windows sytem, so applications can use them.
  • Delete Locked Folder :This utility lets you delete the locked files. Sometimes files cannot be deleted because they are been used by any application and therefore they are locked. This utility lets you mark this type of files to be deleted for the next system boot, before any application can lock them.

There are other menu options also but these are the most commonly used by me

FileMenu Tools can be downloaded from here File Size: 3.58 MB

I like FileMenu Tools very much because of the features it adds to the right clik context menu. Give it a try am sure you’ll like it
