A chip that can detect diseases

The future is here, you don’t need to imagine it. A chip to diagnose your diseases is here!!!

Imagine being able to diagnose if a patient has a certain virus or disease while he’s sitting in the doctor’s waiting room? It could happen sooner than you might think as a result of one of our new products – Lab-on-Chip.

Yes thats what STMicroelectronics is saying. It can screen and identify multiple classes of pathogens and genes within two hours; all in a single test. This is a leap ahead for other types of tests that could previously detect only one strain and sometimes required weeks to obtain test results. it works by holding strands of DNA and matching them against the characteristics of given, known pathogens. It then compares the DNA and if it recognises similarities, it tells you if specific microorganisms have been detected.

Is really small and very fast and accurate. They are also developing it to identify bird flu. It can detect if the patient is infected with the avian flu (H5N1) or a subtype of influenza A or B, in a single test – instead of the many tests needed currently. To be available in time for the next flu season, the single test application will be a substantial breakthrough in rapid identification of the infectious agent to limit the spread of the disease.

Super Cassettes Industries India, sues YouTube

Super Cassettes Industries (T-series) has filed a suit against Google and its video sharing site YouTube after the display on YouTube of content on which the Indian company says it holds copyright.

Super Cassettes Industries (T-series) is seeking a permanent injunction and damages on the dissemination and display on YouTube of the content and obtained an interim restraint order in the High Court in Delhi. This implies that Google which was not represented at the proceedings, has to remove the content until the final order is decided.

“We had communicated several times to YouTube and to Google both in India and the U.S. to remove the content that infringes our copyrights,” said Amit Sibal, lawyer for Super Cassettes.

Google was not immediately available for comment.

Google has in the past objected to provisions in India’s Information Technology Act 2000 which make intermediaries like ISPs (Internet service providers), Web site hosting companies, search engines, email services, and social networks, liable for their users’ content. Section 79 of the Act holds network service providers liable unless they can prove that the offense or contravention was committed without their knowledge or that they had exercised all due diligence to prevent the commission of such offense or contravention.
