Intel showed off its 80
(yes you read it right) 80
core CPU at Intel Developer Forum Beijing. It was chomping data at a STUNNING rate of two teraflops a second.
It’s a research chip that doesn’t yet use standard Intel Architecture (IA) internally, but it’s tangible evidence that Intel is making real progress towards massively-multicore CPUs. The CPU is based on a new design in which RAM is stacked directly on top of the CPU using copper ‘bumps’ touching each other thus providing faster RAM throughput than is possible via traditional system bus.
The cores are ‘tiled’ on the CPU, so that there can be one memory laneway per CPU thus allowing special function processors to be put onto a CPU such as a dedicated network interface or a special protocol processor like an XML processor, for example.
The processor is very energy efficient. When operating at 1 teraflop, it consumed only 46 watts power which is way less than 136W consumed by Presott Pentium 4s. Intel is now aiming to make a 100 cores processor.

Wish someone Gifts me a Rig with 100 core CPU.
Neel & Azhar note it down and i want this for my next birthday
