The mozilla foundation released the first official version of firefox today on November 9, 2004. Firefox is one of the best things that could have ever happened to the opensource community. I suggest firefox to everyone in this world.

Oh what a sweet, sweet day it must be for Microsoft. The first worm specifically targeting the open-source office package OpenOffice has emerged.
It runs on Windows, Mac and Linux computers, but anti-malware vendor Sophos admits it poses a low threat, especially as it’s only a proof-of-concept that hasn’t actually been discovered ‘in the wild’.
Bad bunny: some people have a one-track mind…The OpenOffice worm uses the inbuilt StarBasic scripting language in the office suite to save scripts to disk in several other languages. Continue reading ‘First OpenOffice virus emerges’

Version 2.2 of the opensource blogging software Wordpress will be released on April 22,2007.It comes with some new features and here is a list of the features.
- Tagging (Template_Tags/the_tags) Earlier tags were added by use of plugins but now it has become an inbuilt feature in wordpress which is quite gud.
- Permanent Link Redirection has also been added
- Improved way of editing comments

The voter list in Maharashtra(India) is soon going to be Unicode. The voter list data already exists in computerized form and is available in local languages.But there is no provision in the system for a public interface in Indian Languages.Linux and free software, localized Indian Languages, and the Unicode standard alone can provide an affordable universal interface.
The voter list will be only a starting point in the move to generalize Indian language-enabled e-governance initiatives.
Professor Jitendra Shah’s IndicTrans team has come up with this idea.
Open source will be used in US in November elections and if it gets implemented then we’ll be the first in the world

Recently i came accross this news :-
It was reported on OpenBSD’s errata page, a problem in the mbuf handling of IPv6 has been elevated to a security issue. This means that OpenBSD now has two remote exploits in 10 years, as already reflected on the OpenBSD Homepage. Theo advises to to update the system (or to block IPv6 using PF as a workaround).
So an Idea Struck my mind and here it is:-
