Ran out of DVDs, CDs? Store your data on Bacteria

Bacteria Storing DataStoring data is gonna get a lot easier in future thanks to Bacterias. Yeah those microscopic organisms would be the future storage devices and guess what they can store your data for MILLIONS (yeah millions :-o ) of years.

The four characters of the DNA T, C, A and G ( Thymine, Cytosine, Adenine & Guanine {i still remember those biology terns ;)) } respectively ) which represent the genetic coding in DNA work much like digital data. Character combinations can stand for specific letters & symbols- so codes in genomes can be translated, or read, to produce music text, video & other content.

While ink may fade and computers may crash, bacterial information lasts as long as a species stays alive - possibly a mind boggling million years - according to Masaru Tomita, who heads the team of researchers at Kieo university in Japan.

Tomita’s team successfully inserted into a common bacterium Albert Einstein’s Famous ‘E equals MC square’ equation.

Genetic coding is so massive that the information say a, Shakespeare play can be stashed away some-where in the gene without affecting an organism’s overall appearance and other traits. But mutation could distort data :-s Tomita says data are stored in four places in the bacteria so the data stays intact.

So if this is made possible wide spread what will we see?? Bacteria’s on sale in Computer Stores;)) But no need to sell them because they are “ALL AROUND US”. Imagine catching a bacteria which was accidentally lost by someone having one of the movies you want ;) Sharing data will become so easy :)

dude believe me this isnt possible u cant store datain those bacterias and it isnt bacterias but cells whose structure have DNA plus dude dont forget bacterias pathogenic even if
u use them not for storage but to spread disease u cant command a bacteria to act as per ur orders this all dreamed just like time machine technically impossible!!!!Sorry dude
mutation is the biggest prob in ur post even if u got a way to do all this thing those cells will destroy our race with vital information like these its like creating Artifical intelligence….[:p][:p][:p][:p][:p][:p]

and yah the formula u talking abt is for converting mass into energy not data

  3. 3Priyam

Dude the scientists in japan have done that. And According to wikipedia.org

Data is a synonym for information

Means that any information stored whether it be Einstein’s equation or a movie is data :)

  4. Man belive it or not i’m feeling ill now :-D

  5. Me:Hey, want to share music?
    You:Sure.
    Me:*Acchhoo* There you go.
You:Gee Thanks, Wait *cough*cough* There you go
    Me:Thanks

    Possible in the future? ;-)
